The USA Track & Field (USATF) Masters Outdoor Championships return to Ames and Iowa State University on July 21-25, 2021, hosted by Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Conference Planning and Management, and held at Cyclone Sports Complex. The Championships were originally set for Sacramento, California, but had to be relocated due to local COVID-19 regulations.

The 2021 Masters Outdoor Championships will be the first event with the new 25-29 age group. When Ames and Iowa State University hosted in 2019, Masters’ athletes ages 30-96 broke seven world records and thirteen American records.

“We are so happy to welcome back the USA Track & Field Masters Outdoor Championships to Ames and Iowa State University this July”, said Kevin Bourke, President/CEO, Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Having successfully hosted this championship in 2019, we know the economic impact to Ames and central Iowa will be significant. With almost 900 athletes from 48 states participating in the championships in Ames in 2019, we are hoping to exceed those numbers in 2021. After all the cancellations in 2020 due to COVID-19, this championship will be a great ‘shot in the arm’ for the local economy this summer.”

The USATF Masters Outdoor Championships is also hosted and supported by the Iowa Association USATF. Jim Walczyk, Iowa Association USATF Operations Manager and Treasurer, will serve as the Masters Outdoor Championships Meet Director, serving alongside hundreds of officials and volunteers who ensure the success of the championships.
