Skate Park, Playgrounds Remain Closed; Homewood Golf Course Opens Friday

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has extended the closing of the Georgie Tsushima Memorial Skate Park and playgrounds at local parks and school grounds through Friday, May 15. The original order would have opened the facilities at 11:59 p.m. today. Signs remain posted alerting citizens to the closings.

The Governor’s directive to extend the closings reinforces the City of Ames’ commitment to protecting the health and safety of our citizens. Residents are asked to do their part to keep family, friends, neighbors, and our community safe.

City of Ames parks and trails remain open to the public for recreation options. All park restrooms remain closed, and water fountains are turned off. The Ames Dog Park is closed. Homewood Golf Course will open for the season on Friday, May 1, but with restrictions. Please see www.AmesParksRec.org for details.

While visiting any public space, users should exercise their best judgment and act responsibly. It is recommended users bring their own sanitizing supplies. By the Governor’s order, citizens may gather in groups of 10 people or fewer. All citizens should observe social distancing standards and stay home if you do not feel well or have a temperature.
