Sharon Black Joins Convention & Visitors Bureau as their Director of Sales

The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (Ames CVB) welcomes Sharon Black as the new Director of Sales. Black will be responsible for the leadership, development, and implementation of conference, event and meeting sales and services for state, regional and national clients. Additionally, Black will oversee new market development and maintenance of existing annual clients.

Black brings to the Ames CVB fifteen years of travel and hospitality sales and more than eight years of experience in hotel and event center sales, including time with Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. Most recently, Black served as the Sales Coordinator at Prairie Meadows Event Center & Hotel.

“I have lived in Ames and the surrounding area for over twenty-five years and am an avid supporter of the city of Ames and Iowa State University,” said Black. “Ames has so much to offer the business and leisure conference attendees and visitors. I am looking forward to promoting Ames and Iowa State University as an event destination in my new role.”

“With Sharon joining our team, we look forward to new opportunities to expand our efforts to seek out and bring visitors to Ames, Iowa State University, and central Iowa,” said Kevin Bourke, President/CEO, Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Sharon’s extensive sales background is a great advantage not only for the Ames CVB, but for the surrounding community, as we promote Ames as the smart choice to visit for conferences, meetings, sports and special events.”

The local travel industry annually welcomes thousands of overnight visitors and single-day visitors each year. These visitors annually account for $114 million dollars in direct spending in our community, through overnight accommodations, retail spending, dining, entertainment and travel expenditures.

The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (Ames CVB) is a member-based organization, supported by hotel/motel tax. The Ames CVB builds economic activity in the Ames area by recruiting visitors to the community for conferences, conventions, sports, group tours, special events and leisure trips.
