New President/CEO hired for the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau

AMES, IOWA – Following a nationwide search, the Board of Directors for the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) have hired a new President and Chief Executive Officer for the organization. Kevin Bourke, current COO of the Iowa Sports Foundation, will assume the top position beginning July 31 of this year.

ACVB Board Chair Jim Baker remarked on the wealth of talented candidates the position attracted from across the country. “I believe interest in this position was directly linked to Julie Weeks’ reputation as a leader in the industry and the vibrancy of the Ames community,” said Baker. Weeks served as the President and CEO of the Bureau since 2000 and announced her retirement in March.

Bourke has served the Iowa Sports Foundation since 2000, initially serving as Director of Sports and Operations prior to becoming Chief Operations Officer in 2011. Bourke previously worked at Iowa State University as the Head Men’s Cross-Country Coach, Assistant Cross-Country Coach, and Assistant Track and Field Coach at Iowa State University. Bourke earned his bachelor’s degree from ISU in 1983 and he holds a master’s degree in Athletics Administration from the University of Illinois.

Weeks’ last day at the ACVB will be Friday, May 31. Former Board member and Professor Emeritus at ISU Robert Bosselman will be serving as Interim CEO through the end of July.
