Your Rights, Your Libraries: The First Amendment and the Freedom to Read

Tue / April 12, 2022
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm / Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave.

“Your Rights, Your Libraries: The First Amendment and the Freedom to Read” will be held in Ames Public Library’s Auditorium and online via Zoom. This panel discussion will examine how libraries protect your freedoms, support the community, and represent diverse perspectives — particularly during the current controversies about library materials. Representatives from Iowa State University Library, Ames Public Library, the Ames Community School District, and the Iowa Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee will share how libraries choose materials and support the community. Questions from the audience are encouraged.

This event is sponsored by Iowa State University’s Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication as part of its 20th annual First Amendment Days celebration. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Ames Public Library and Iowa State University Library.
