More Than Monoliths Artist Talk
/ July 22, 2021
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Join Ames Public Library for this summer’s More Than Monolith’s project. Local artist Cameron Gray will host conversations with featured artists, diving into the beauty of Black creators and their creations. Each discussion will identify and explore how the featured artist defines themselves and their practice—whether they imbue their creations with an understanding of Blackness from their discipline, images of the Black body, historical American aspects of Blackness, or the beauty of African influence.
This project aims to dispel the notion of Blackness as a single monolithic experience, just as art can’t be reduced to a single form, media, or subject.
On Thursday, July 22, Ames Public Library will host a virtual Artist Talk with this month’s featured artist, Dr. Eulanda A. Sanders, at 7pm via Zoom.
Dr. Sanders is the chair for the Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management (AESHM) in the College of Human Sciences and the Donna R. Danielson Professor of Textiles and Clothing in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design at Iowa State University. Dr. Sanders has had 70 individual apparel, fiber and wearable designs accepted and exhibited in juried exhibitions during her career. For more information, visit www.amespubliclibrary.org/MoreThanMonoliths.
