Ames history: A ride on the Dinkey

Wed / April 27, 2022
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm / Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave

Join the Ames Public Library for a presentation by the Ames History Museum when Kathy Svec and Dennis Wendell will present “A Ride on the Dinkey.”

The Dinkey was the small-scale train that carried passengers, mail, freight and building materials between downtown Ames and Iowa Agricultural College for 16 years, 1891-1907, a period of rapid growth by both entities.

The lecture will provide some background and a scenic tour of what a passenger might have seen out of the windows on their journey – AND how the Dinkey relates to the upcoming museum expansion and a planned permanent exhibit.

Participants may attend in person at the Library’s Auditorium or online via Zoom. To participate online, register for this free event at

Presented in partnership with Ames Public Library and Ames History Museum.
