Volunteer Center of Story County Receives 2018 Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau Community Grant

The Volunteer Center of Story County facilitates Days of Service throughout the year for individuals and local organizations to come together to learn about and address current needs and issues within our community. On January 15, the Volunteer Center of Story County is coordinating a day of service to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King Day marks the beginning of the service year as hundreds of volunteers will honor the memory of Dr. King by contributing their time, talent, voice and money to improve their communities. Funds from the grant will be used for expanding capacity of the event, accommodating a larger number of volunteers and increased marketing of the event. For more information, visit www.vcstory.org

About the Ames Convention & Visitors Community Grant Program:
The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau awarded $92,000 in funding on behalf of their Community Grant Program to assist local businesses and organizations in promoting and implementing 31 special events and programs in the Ames area for 2018. Each grant was awarded according to its intent to attract new visitors to the Ames area, enhance visitor experiences and improve the quality of life for area residents. With this latest addition of grant recipients, the Bureau’s Community Grant Program has awarded more than $630,000 to help fund nearly 254 events and projects throughout the area since its establishment in 2007.
