New leadership in place for the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau

The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to welcome Kevin Bourke as the organization’s new President and CEO.

Following a nationwide search, the Board of Directors for the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) hired Bourke to replace Julie Weeks as the Chief Executive for the community organization upon her retirement. Starting officially on July 31, Bourke came to the ACVB after an almost 20-year tenure with the Iowa Sports Foundation, most recently serving as the Chief Operations Officer.

“Ames and Iowa State University have so much to offer visitors,” Bourke said. “I’m excited to lead the growth in visitors to the community and work to make their experiences extraordinary.”

ACVB Board Chair Jim Baker remarked on Bourke’s potential for the Bureau. “Kevin has already demonstrated he has tremendous vision for the [ACVB] and the community,” Baker said. “The staff and board are looking forward to how he will take us to the next level.”

Bourke’s first days on the job were actually spent in Lynchburg, VA, promoting Ames and Iowa State University at the State Games of America, an event drawing upwards of 15,000 people that will next be hosted in Ames and Des Moines in 2021.

Prior to working with the Iowa Sports Foundation, Bourke was employed with Iowa State University for 17 years as the Head Men’s Cross-Country Coach, Assistant Cross-Country Coach, and Assistant Track and Field Coach. Bourke earned his bachelor’s degree from ISU in 1983 and he holds a master’s degree in Athletics Administration from the University of Illinois.
