Nevada Recognized for Hosting One of the Highest Rated ASA/USA Softball Championships in 2016

Nevada received the James Farrell Award of Excellence for hosting the 2016 Girls Class A 16-Under Northern National Fast Pitch Championships at the SCORE Complex in Nevada, August 2-7, 2016. During the championships, central Iowa welcomed 37 teams from across the Midwest.

 The James Farrell Award of Excellence is named in honor of former St. Louis Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Commissioner and National Office staff member James Farrell.

The James Farrell Award of Excellence is awarded to the cities that do an outstanding job of hosting ASA/USA Softball National Championship tournaments. To receive the award, cities must attain an overall rating of 95 percent or greater from the ASA/USA Softball Representative, Umpire-In-Chief and National Office.

Julie Weeks, Executive Director of the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau and Seann DeMaris, Sports & Leisure Manager, Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau, presented the award to Rhonda Maier, Assistant Director, Nevada Parks and Recreation, during the April 10, 2017, Nevada City Council Meeting. The Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau partners with Nevada Parks and Recreation to host several sports and leisure events each year.
