Iowa Museum Week 2017: June 12-18

In a signing ceremony on June 5, Governor Kim Reynolds signed her first proclamation since taking office, proclaiming June 12-18, 2017 “Iowa Museum Week.”
A study by the Institute of Museums and Library Services estimates an approximate 850 million visits each year to American museums, more than the attendance for all major league sporting events and theme parks combined.

Midwest Museums Matter.
Annually, Iowa Museums attract five million visitors, offer 60,000 public programs, preserve more than 680,000 artifacts and employ more than 2,300 Iowans.

University Museums Matters.
Each year, University Museums presents 80 educational programs free to the public, serves more than 8,000 students in more than 30 departments across all colleges through Visual Literacy and Learning programs and actively acquires works of art to add to the more than 30,000 objects in the permanent collection.

Show Museums Matter to You.

We have created a suggestion guide for you to celebrate Museum Week 2017 with something a little different each day. We’d love to host you for a tour of one of our three staffed museums, outdoor sculpture garden (although a bit under construction) and our extensive Art on Campus collection.
