City Hall and most City departments and divisions will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in recognition of Independence Day. Normal operating hours will resume on Thursday, July 5.
Fireworks will be held after dusk (generally sometime after 9:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, July 3. It is important to remember that lighting of fireworks within Ames city limits is illegal. Those who are caught exploding fireworks in Ames could face a simple misdemeanor charge with a minimum fine of $250.
Events on Wednesday, July 4, include the free community pancake breakfast hosted by the Ames Mayor and City Council from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the front entrance of City Hall, 515 Clark Ave. The Fourth of July parade on Main Street will begin at 11 a.m.

The Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., and the Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be closed Wednesday, July 4.
