Acclaimed Chef Joins Gateway Hotel Team
Chef Robert Bruno has a well-rounded culinary background strong in French and Italian cuisine; he comes to The Gateway Hotel and Conference Center with more than 20 years of experience in fine dining, large event catering, and a passion for beautifully crafted fresh cuisine.
In order to fund his undergraduate studies in psychology Chef Bruno worked in both front and back of house as a server and prep cook- this is where he discovered not only his passion for cooking, but also his love of the hospitality industry as a whole. Chef Bruno followed his heart and attended The Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago, earning a degree in Culinary Arts and Hospitality. His passion for cooking was now his career. He never looked back.
After graduation Chef Bruno took his talent to fine dining, retirement communities, and catering before finding his way to teaching. He spent 8 years wielding his dynamic personality as a culinary educator at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Chicago and LCB’s international campus in Ottawa. It was a perfect fit- Chef Bruno’s penchant for teaching others, for helping them become the best at what they do and achieve success, is second only to his zeal to create beautiful dishes from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Chef Bruno is very excited to bring this philosophy of fresh, delicious flavors and responsibly farmed ingredients to The Gateway Hotel and give the guests of The Gateway a dining experience to remember. Chef Bruno lives with his family in Ankeny.
